Seasons Greetings...Rekindling our Blog!

Seasons Greetings,

What a world win of just a little over 2 months & counting.

The beginning of September we received our annual cost of living increase for our space rent at our mobile home park along with the last $50 a month for a settlement the park made with the city. Along with that increase the electric, water & sewer will increase.  So, considering the increase in living expenses and California going more liberally extreme…we began to pray.

Then late September I ended up in the ER with an intestine  “situation”. Still facing the possibility of surgery at some point but no problems so with better eating habits and answered prayer!  Also, many of you know that I with my team had been planning a Women’s Stay Retreat, Well Watered Woman. Talk about an answer to prayer, my team was fantastic  and the retreat was a blessing to all.

The following week after our event Roger and I decided to rekindle our interest in moving.  So, we booked a reservation for a motel, rented a car and headed out for Prescott, Arizona.  We fell in love with the area, the people were friendly, so it was a go!

We put our mobile home up for sale.  The first person to view it bought it, a friend of a neighbor, with a 30-day escrow. (BTW it closed in 27 days!)  Becoming minimalists went into high gear on steroids.  Did you know we had a huge library?  Our books for the most part went to a jail ministry, a pastor, an attorney who teaches law at Liberty Law School, a friend of his, missionaries in the Philippines and some other friends.  Yes, it was difficult but as long as I did not go back and “touch” any of the books I was okay.

We picked up a 10 ft. (they ended up giving us a 15 ft.) U-Haul truck, in bad need of a front-end alignment we would find out!!!  Believe me 10 ft. is still even too much but we were able to find stuff to load L

Next, we added an auto-transport on the back of the U-Haul to take our car with us and we set out December 8th at about noon.  What should have been about an 8-hour trip with the U-Haul etc. took 24 hours.  We took a couple of naps at the Flying J’s along the way.  We arrived Friday in Prescott at our motel we had made reservations for – our “home” for a week till we bought a 5th wheel.  No, we did not buy a truck to tow it – yet!  Little did we know the end of the year here is a good market for the RV industry because of snowbirds and hunters!

Found!  A space in a mobile home & RV park about a half a mile from the historic downtown square with the Courthouse.  This park was the one we visited when we were on our visit in October.  We prayed and are now in the spot we asked the Lord for.

The day after we arrived two men from the church we visited when we were here in October helped us unload the truck.  (We met the one man when we came in October and the other man got our “visitor” card, called and emailed us – originally from Escondido.)  What a welcome!  There is so much more to tell of how the Lord has gone before us.  Maybe next time, will include about the “Band of Brothers” – a group of guys that the founder was in San Diego & moved here…a friend of ours in San Diego introduced us to him via texting and cell calls.

As I write this email I am sitting at my dining table looking out our back “picture” window looking out over the creek and woods.  We may even get an unseasonably snow fall for Christmas.  (Prescott has four mild seasons!)

Well, will close for now but so much more to write about already.  Next time.
Be on the lookout to see where God is moving in your life and join Him.  Opportunities abound to serve our great God if only we will be mindful of His precious promises to us and a living out of the “one another’s” being a light in a dark world. (James 4:13-15)

We pray that you will have a very blessed Christmas and prosperous new year in Him. (Jeremiah 29:11)
In Christ in HIStory,

Looking Forward in My Rearview Mirror

December 31, 2008

In just a few short hours another year, 2008, will be in our past with some memories left in our mind to review…

Our 2008 started with a new grandchild, Jacob - born Nov. 2007, and with our daughter, Sunshine, David - her husband and our two other grandchildren, Caleb and Megan. Just shortly after the arrival of 2008 Sunshine, David and our grandbabies went back to Uganda L Megan has started speech therapy, the kids got to witness two of the Ugandans that work on their compound kill a King Cobra with bows & arrows, and all three - now have had malaria.

The real estate industry continued to decline (of which is our primary source of our livelihood, real estate appraisal). Gas prices hit an all-time high of almost $5 per gallon.

So, we made some decisions to concentrate most of our time and efforts in the East County (of San Diego). We started attending Shadow Mountain Community Church, started a Small Group this fall, as well as had Bible studies in our home over the summer with Roger and a friend of ours (that spent over 12 years teaching the Bible in Ukraine) leading.

We started 2008 with a Truth Project training, then led our 2nd Truth Project study starting in the Spring. The Truth Project is a Biblical Worldview study over 13 weeks. It is a very interactive (comprehensive & systematic) study centered on what is truth and your worldview. Visit http://www.thetruthproject.com/ for more info and to view a preview. We plan on leading another Truth Project in the Spring of 2009.

Then this fall shortly after Roger hit Medicare age but not a recipient, he had some “health issues” that reoccurred from some of the same symptoms he experience in 2004. After a blood work-up, a treadmill stress test and a heart monitor (had a heart monitor in 2004 too) it was discovered he had high cholesterol….after almost 3 months of medication his cholesterol is down but the doctor thinks he should have another treadmill stress test again only with a picture while in the process….so, sometime in January he will get that done. I guess age is starting to show itself.

Also, this fall, after getting to hear Kay Arthur locally, we went to look at RV’s and I broke my foot, bummer L So, I was largely out of commission for the better part of six weeks and thanks to friends was well equipped with a walker, wheelchair, and Roger found me a pair of crutches!
So, we continued to look at RV’s and as many of you know we have been thinking of changing our lifestyle…..We continued to learn, investigate and look at RV’s…We found our new home, motor home that is, the middle of November. Excitement is an understatement and probably not the only word that would describe what we are feeling. Along with excitement we are feeling overwhelmed, anticipation, and even to a degree now that it’s only a couple of weeks…..surreal.

As this year draws to a close and a new one starts we will celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. Hanging in there truly brings beauty and a sweetness in our relationship we call marriage that so many miss out on - how sad. We really are blessed to say that “I am my beloved and my beloved is mine”, (Song of Solomon 6:3)

In just a few short weeks into the new year we will move into our new home in a beautiful setting in San Diego county known as Santee Lakes (there are 7 of them & still in east county) along with a little over 300 such Rvs, maybe half of those being fulltime RVers. We are finding that even though there is movement in Rving, it is definitely a community. For 2009 we will mostly be at Santee Lakes continuing with our Small Group, but have a few trips in the planning stage we will take and then in 2010 it will be the open road for us!!!!!

So, we wish you all a Happy New Year and keep checking in to see what’s new…

Karen & Roger
